The Development of Tourism in The Natural and Archeological Park of Orikum

Orikum in southern Albania is a rich and complex place. It is an example of perfect site between past and the future. Its history begins in the sixth century BC Christ with the Greek settlements on hill between sea and lagoon at the foot of a mountain, and it can be extended, nowadays, a development of across the plain Orikum. The questions posed by the sustainability of the site and opened to the public should be integrating all parameters, including environmental. The natural environment is under pressure in Albania, as in many countries, the issue of development while respecting the environmental qualities is asked. The paper opens with defining natyral, cultural and heritage tourism, preservation of natyral and archeological heritage. In the next section it focuses on describing the main relevant contextual factors, the historical background of urban development and national strategy for the tourism development, which are essential for understanding the formation of the cultural tourism market over the course of the economic transformation in Albania. The second part of the paper focuses on describing the natural and archeological park of Orikum, the situation of natyral landscape, the urban development next to dhe park, and the archeological park of the ancient Oricos. In the closing section are summarized the findings from the analysis of the context and some recommendations of mechanisms to be used to preserve the natural and archaeological heritage through the development of tourism
